In this task, I copied Magnin's editing style of using geometric shapes on a normal portrait.
I used photoshop tools to edit the images. I like how edits' outcomes and how they are similar to Magnin's but differ slightly. To improve I would revisit and photograph more models in different poses and lighting and try some colourful edits similar to some of Magnin's works. |
I thought it would be interesting try her technique on an inside building as I think it fits the criteria of her other works as many people walk past this glass block and no one pays it much attention. My editing process involved deleting the building- using the lassoo tool- then painting the colour I chose onto its structure

In photoshop, I layered a base image of the empty column under an image with my model's arm around it. I then reduced the top layer's capacity and selected the inverse of it to remove the model's body from the image. Once left with only an arm, I erased the rest of the unwanted features. After the first image, instead of using the empty column as the base image, I used the image i had just edited- this meant that I could have a result with multiple arms around the column.
To improve this task, i would focus more carefully on erasing the background as there are a few slight details which are not perfectly earsed. |
In photoshop, I layered a base image of the plain fireplace under an image of my sister's arm. I then reduced the top layer's capacity and selected the inverse of it to remove my sister from the image. Once left with her arm, I erased the rest of the unwanted features and then turned it black and white.
To improve this task, I would focus more on the erasing section of my editing to ensure that it is only the arm from the top layer in the image. This way, the final outcome would look more smooth- especially when compared next to the other images next to it. I would also add some more shadows to where the arm comes out of the chimney so that it would look more realistic and less edited. |
